Our trip to the local community garden

June 7, 2018 · Comments Off on Our trip to the local community garden

We visited Hubert who takes care of the local community garden. We looked at some amazing things him and the group are growing such as cucumbers, black tomatoes and even sweetcorn. We were very lucky to try the amazing cucumbers and lettuce . Hubert told us about the bees he keeps and why they are so important. We even got to hold some honey comb and try some of the honey straight from it. Did you know each section of a the honey comb is exactly the same size? Bees make amazing mathematicians!

Summer in 1st class

June 7, 2018 · Comments Off on Summer in 1st class

Over the past month we have been very busy in 1st class. We went on a summer walk, where we saw different signs of summer. We also had a drama workshop on the theme of animals in the jungle which we really enjoyed. We did experiments testing different objects around the room to see if they float or sink. Finally, we went on a teddy bears picnic with 2nd class to Cherryfield Park. The weather was lovely and we had a great day!

We finished our length maths topic with a long jump competition. We enjoyed estimating and measuring the jumps and finding the best and average scores. Lochlan jumped over 3 metres!

May 24, 2018 · Comments Off on 5th Class growing

Our planting has been very successful so far this year. We have brought home sunflowers and have planted some around the school. Keep and eye out for them as the year goes on.

As part of the Agriaware growing challenge and Green schools we hope to plant our crops in school. More information about this very soon 🙂

May 17, 2018 · Comments Off on Cross Country Final in Corkagh Park

A lovely sunny day was an ideal setting for South Dublin County Council’s cross country final. Children presenting Damo’s from 3rd to 6th ran and there were great runs from Emily in 3rd who finished first and well Daragh in 2nd place in the boys race. Well done to Cian in fourth who finished third and to Tadhg for making the special 4th class final.

We had such a wonderful afternoon.  Two grandparents came to our class and read us Irish legends.  They were so lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
