Nature walk to Tymon Park with Éanna Ní Lamhna

April 30, 2018 · No Comments

Today we went on a walk to Tymon Park with Éanna Ní Lamhna. We learned how male ducks have green heads & females have brown heads. We looked at different flowers and learned why daisies are called so; days eye, because they open their petals in day time and close them at night. We saw a rare flower called cowslip and learned how dandelions were used to make medicine. We also looked for insects in leaves on certain trees. We did this by holding an umbrella upside down & shook the leaves into it to see what insects fell out.

Fighting Words!

April 24, 2018 · Comments Off on Fighting Words!

On Monday the 23rd of April we went to a Fighting Word’s workshop. When we arrived we had to get name stickers and our photos taken by Colm. Then we had to go through a secret door, we made up a password to enter. Our password was Billy Bob Jr.

After getting through the passage we sat down on cushions and went through ideas for our story as a group. Djamel helped us and John typed up our ideas. We named our book ‘Baby Squad’. Carol was our illustrator, she drew and coloured two beautiful pictures. Mr. McConkey was our editor. He was very cranky and wanted coffee and doughnuts from Djamel for his breakfast. We didn’t get to see him and he didn’t want to see us!

We wrote half our story as a group and then we got to work with other volunteers to write our own ending. Later Mr. McConkey looked at our work and he decided it was good enough to publish. We all came home with our own book printed out and ready for us to finish.

We had a great time, we would reccommend it and give it 4.9/5 stars!

Thanks everyone in Fighting Words!!
