Nature walk to Tymon Park with Éanna Ní Lamhna

April 30th, 2018 · No Comments

Today we went on a walk to Tymon Park with Éanna Ní Lamhna. We learned how male ducks have green heads & females have brown heads. We looked at different flowers and learned why daisies are called so; days eye, because they open their petals in day time and close them at night. We saw a rare flower called cowslip and learned how dandelions were used to make medicine. We also looked for insects in leaves on certain trees. We did this by holding an umbrella upside down & shook the leaves into it to see what insects fell out.

Hurricane Ophelia left us with an ample supply of leaves to ‘investigate’ symmetry. We then created posters in groups to show what we had discovered.

Second class- we named our new class pet

October 9th, 2017 · Comments Off on Second class- we named our new class pet

After settling into second class really well, we had an unexpected addition- a new class pet, a long haired hamster. We took a tally to decide what to call him. We decided on Charlie. Charlie was chosen as our teacher is reading us the story of Charlie and the chocolate factory. We have since researched and completed projects on hamsters and had great fun in doing so.

Our Tally

Hi I’m Charlie and very excited to be a part of second class.
