Minibeast hunt

We had great fun in 1st class hunting for minibeasts in the playground. We spotted lots of different insects in the grass, under the window sills, on the playground and in the soil. We saw snails, bumble bees, earthworms, woodlouse, spiders and ants. When we got back to class we picked a minibeasts and wrote down all we learned about them.

Spring is here!

Last week in first class, we began to learn about spring. We discussed all the signs of spring such as new life, budding trees and flowers and the longer days. We didn’t expect to see snow!! We also went on a nature walk around the school and did some planting. We planted cress seed, spinach seeds and pea seeds.

Paired Reading

In 1st class, we were joined by 4th class to do paired reading. 1st class began by reading a book to 4th class, showing of our brilliant reading skills. following this, we got to choose a book from the library, which our 4th class pair read to us. We had great fun and look forward to doing it again!

Science Week

For Science week, 1st class began scientists and worked on a number of science experiments with the help of 4th Class. We did experiments using food colouring, vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and tissue. we also found out what sort of fingerprints we have.

In 1st Class we have been working hard learning about length, using a variety of tools to measure objects around the classroom. We used a metre stick, rulers, paper clips, books, lollipop sticks, cubes, counters and lots more to take measurements.

1st Class October work

In October we spent some time learning about the history of halloween. We learned about and played games from the past, we did some halloween art and we also dressed up in fancy dress to keep the spirit of the Jack O’ Lantern away!!

Homes and Houses

In first class, we used recycled materials to create homes and houses. We also learned about homes around the world and about the differences amongst them. We had fun doing our projects on homes and houses.

An Fear Sinsear i Rang a hAon

Last week the children learned the story of the Gingerbread man as Gaeilge. They really enjoyed this and were brilliant at acting out the drama in Irish. As well as this the children sequenced the story in English. On Friday, the children baked and decorated delicious gingerbread men.
