Girls Give Heroic Performance in Semi-Final Battle

October 21, 2013 · No Comments

St Damian’s girls played their last football match of the season this week against Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna as they bowed out in the semi-final stages. The girls put in a marvellous effort and were very unfortunate not to win on the day losing by the narrowest of margins (1 point).

Fantastic defending by Georgiana Bardon and Ciara Carney kept St Damian’s very much in the game. Emma Duffy’s wonderful solo run and well placed shot provided St Damian’s with a great first half goal, leaving us 1 point behind at half time.  It was all to play for in the second half and St Damian’s determination paid off with an excellent point from Leah Doyle which levelled the match. St Damian’s were very unlucky not to win as every girl gave their best efforts from start to finish.

Ms Daly, Ms Miley, Mr O’Connor and Audrey are all incredibly proud of the girls who put in a spectacular effort all season. A big thank you must go to the parents who provided lifts to the matches. A special thanks to the 6th class girls who have served their school fantastically over the years, showing true St Damian’s spirit at all times. We have no doubt that some of the girls will go on to represent Dublin in the future and play in Croke Park again. The future of football looks very bright in St Damian’s with some wonderfully skilled girls coming up through the ranks and we look forward to next year’s competition. Football sessions will continue on Mondays after school for the month of November where we will host an in-house football blitz.
