Trip to Tymon Park with Éanna Ni Lamhna

September 29, 2014 · No Comments

The children from 4th, 5th and 6th class were very lucky today as they were accompanied on an extra special tour of Tymon Park by nature expert and wildlife enthusiast  Éanna Ni Lamhna. Possessing an encyclopaedic knowledge of Ireland’s flora and fauna, the popular contributor to the RTE radio show ‘Mooney Goes Wild’, gave a very informative talk on Tymon Park and its’ inhabitants. The children learnt so much on their trip on a variety of subjects like birds, bushes, berries, insects and  trees. They now see Tymon Park in a totally new perspective! Éanna has ignited a spark of interest in wildlife and nature for the children and we look forward to doing some interesting projects and artwork based on our trip!

Our Green Schools Committee are working very hard to get another flag this year for water.  We have put posters in every classroom and bathroom reminding children to turn off the tap when they are not using it.  We have put up many displays around the school showing all the work we have done about water.  We are all learning the “Water Cycle” song in our classrooms.

Senior Infants – September

September 22, 2014 · No Comments

Senior Infants have been working so hard in class.

We have learned so much so far.  We love our new Irish programme called Bua na Cainte.  We had great fun today during Aistear.  The theme was “school” and we acted out little role plays imagining we were different people in a school.  Some children acted the role of the school secretary and caretaker and others pretended they were the principal.  We also constructed things out of blocks and made characters using play dough.  It was great fun.

We went exploring outside our school to see what leaves and seeds we could find ! We found lots of leaves and seeds for our class nature table. We had great fun!

Celebrating Roald Dahl day.

September 14, 2014 · No Comments

Friday 12th September was Roald Dahl day. In Room 3 we have been listening and working on the story of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The book is 50 years old this year. To celebrate the day we made Top hats like Mr. Willy Wonka wore. We had lots of fun. :-)
